Yes. All electrical systems must comply with current Australian standards before insulation installation, as required under ACT electrical regulations. This typically involves upgrading the switchboard to meet current standards, replacing lighting with IC-4 rated fixtures, and installing draft stoppers to reduce airflow through the ceiling space. The inspection can be carried out by our licensed electricians or your own.
When insulation is added to a ceiling, it changes how heat dissipates around existing electrical cabling, which can affect the current-carrying capacity of circuits. In modern switchboards, compliance is often as simple as adjusting or replacing RCD switches. Older switchboards may require a full upgrade.

Many ACT homes built before 1997 have little or no ceiling insulation. Even newer insulation can compress or degrade over time, reducing its effectiveness. We recommend a check if your insulation is more than 15–20 years old.
